Efforts to accelerate energy technology change.

  The pace of the global energy transition has slowed significantly since the 1970s, despite national and international efforts to accelerate energy technology change in response to the oil crises of the 1970s, current concerns about global warming, and the goal of ensuring universal access to modern energy services. A complex system of organizations and institutions has emerged at the international level to promote energy technology cooperation and provide both financial resources for clean energy investments and price signals to favour low-carbon energy technologies; and a global system for the transfer of hundreds of billions of United States dollars is in the making.
